Background Information: | Met 5-Enkephalin is a 5 amino acid endogenous opioid neuropeptide that is one of the two forms of enkephalin. It is an endogenous potent and selective ligand of the delta opioid receptor OPRD1 over the other opioid receptors, with lesser effect on OPRM1 and a slight effect on OPRK1. Found in the adrenal medulla and the CNS. Met-Enkephalin is an active growth factor, neurotransmitter and neuromodulator that enhances immune function through met-enkephalin receptors on leukocytes.
