Background Information: | Casein kinases are operationally defined by their preferential utilization of acidic proteins such as caseins as substrates. It can phosphorylate a large number of proteins. CKIa enables protein serine/threonine kinase activity. CK1a is also involved in several processes, including negative regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway; peptidyl-serine phosphorylation; and positive regulation of proteasomal ubiquitin-dependent protein catabolic process. Located in centrosome; cytosol; and nuclear speck. Part of beta-catenin destruction complex. Co-localizes with keratin filament and mRNA cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor complex. Biomarker of Alzheimer's disease and inclusion body myositis. [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022] |
