Background Information: | Myotonic dystrophy (DM1) is the most common form of muscular dystrophy in adults, caused by amplification of an unstable (CTG)n repeat in the 3' untranslated region (3'-UTR) of the DM1 protein kinase (DMPK) gene. Myotonic dystrophy protein kinase (DMPK) is a serine threonine kinase encoded by the DM-1 locus.
