Background Information: | Artemin is a disulfide-linked homodimeric neurotrophic factor structurally related to GDNF, artemin, neurturin and persephin. Artemin is highly expressed in the adult pituitary gland, placenta, and trachea, and shows low level expression in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral tissues. Artemin signals through the RET receptor and GDNF family receptor alpha 3 (GFRŽ3) co-receptor complex to support neuronal survival. |

Artemin is a neurotrophic factor in the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor family of ligands which are a group of ligands within the TGF-beta superfamily of signaling molecules. This protein is a ligand for the RET receptor and uses GFR-alpha 3 as a co-receptor.
