| Background Information: | CX3CL1 (fractalkine) exists as a soluble cytokine protein as well as a membrane-bound version. The soluble version chemoattracts T cells and monocytes. Membrane-bound CX3CL1 is primarily expressed on activated endothelial cells, and promotes a strong binding to leukocytes. CX3CL1 acts as an agonist for its chemokine receptor, CX3CR1.
