Biological Information
Background Information:
α-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a potent agonist of the melanocortin receptors MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5, but not MC2. α-MSH may function in a number of diverse physiological roles. MSH stimulates rapid translocation of melanosomes (melanin granules) in dermal melanophores to effect rapid color change and melanogenesis in normal and abnormal (melanoma) epidermal melanocytes.
