Background Information: | Ghrelin is a neuropeptide GI hormone that regulates hunger and plays a role in energy use and distribution. It is secreted in the GI tract when the stomach is empty and stimulates gastric acid secretion and GI motility to prepare the body for food consumption. Acts in opposition to the "satiety hormone", leptin, and is an agonist for the same receptor in the brain, called the growth hormone secretagogue type 1A receptor, or GHSR. |
