Mitochondrial derived forms are 21 amino acids, while cytosolic forms are 24 amino acids. Humanin may be useful in protecting against Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, prion disease, stroke, oxidative stress, atherosclerosis, type I diabetes, and heart attack.
