Background Information: | Nicotinic acid (vitamin B3, niacin) is a naturally occurring organic compound and essential nutrient. It is a precursor of the coenzymes NAD and NADP, which play a role in hydrogen transfer processes including: fat, carbohydrate, protein, and alcohol catabolism; DNA repair; cell signaling; and more. Insufficiency of nicotinic acid leads to nausea, skin and mouth lesions, anemia, headaches, tiredness, and in severe cases the disease pellagra. Medically used in the treatment of pellagra. Acts as an agonist for GPR109A. Provided as 10 mg of dry powder. |
