Biological Information
Background Information:
PRMT3 (Protein arginine methyltransferase 3) is a member of the protein arginine methyltransferase (PRMT) family that specifically targets the guanidino nitrogen of arginine residues in proteins, catalyzing the formation of monomethylated and asymmetrically dimethylated arginine residues. PRMT3 is unique among the PRMT family members in that it is primarily responsible for the formation of monomethylated arginine residues, rather than the asymmetric dimethylated residues that are typically produced by other PRMTs. PRMT3 has been shown to be involved in the regulation of RNA processing by modulating the function of splicing factors and RNA-binding proteins, and it is involved in the regulation of cell signaling pathways, including the JAK-STAT signaling pathway.
